VM Archive is a compression utility from IBM. To learn more or to get the utility, follow this link to IBM's VM download site.

Installing Maxback/VM from VM Archive

Get a license code and download the archive and manual files as described above.
Complete the installation as described in the Maxback/VM manual.
See the chapter "Installing Maxback/VM."

But replace Step 3 with the instructions below:

  1. Unzip MXB.zip to unpackage MXB.VMARC.
  2. Binary transfer MXB.VMARC to a CMS minidisk.
  3. Issue two commands:
      PIPE < MXB VMARC A | fblock 80 00 | > MXB VMARC A F 80
      VMARC UNPK MXB VMARC A

    That will decompress three files containing CMS members to be loaded to three minidisks:
      MXB191 VMARC A for the MXB 191 disk
      MXB200 VMARC A for the MXB 200 disk
      MXB292 VMARC A for the MXB 292 disk
  4. Create a VM directory entry according to the instructions in the Maxback/VM manual.
  5. Access the MXB 191 disk. Copy the MXB191 VMARC file to it. Create the members on the 191 disk with the command
      VMARC UNPK MXB191 VMARC A
  6. Access the MXB 200 disk. Copy the MXB200 VMARC file to it. Create the members on the 200 disk with the command
      VMARC UNPK MXB200 VMARC A
  7. Access the MXB 292 disk. Copy the MXB292 VMARC file to it. Create the members on the 292 disk with the command
      VMARC UNPK MXB292 VMARC A
