Maxback/VM provides fast, flexible backup and restore for CMS files and disks. It also provides simple DDR backup and disaster recovery.
CMS Backup and Restore, Files or Disks
Specify which CMS files to back up to tape simply by listing users and disk names. Use wildcards to backup all of a user's disks. Name individual users and/or disks to be excluded from backups. Backup everything, or backup only files that have changed recently.
Restore individual files or entire disks. Search complete backup catalogs by user, disk, filename, and/or file type.
Get faster backups on less tape. Maxback uses tape more efficiently than VMFPLC2. Backups that take 45 minutes and 6 tapes with VMFPLC2 are cut to 8 minutes and one tape with Maxback/VM.
Restored files bear the time stamp of the last time they were changed--before they were backed up.
And whether you want to restore files or not, Maxback/VM is a quick easy way to find file names and locations you've forgotten.
DDR Backup and Disaster Recovery
With Maxback/VM, DDR backups include whatever user IDs and disk addresses you specify in simple text files.
That means you don't have to back up your entire system all at once, while everything else waits. You can break a full backup into smaller tasks for execution at separate times.
DDR backups provide disaster recovery. They can restore your system to hardware that has no operating system.
Maxback Authorization Controls
Maxback/VM offers detailed control over who can do what. For each user, you can separately specify authority to execute backups and restores, and to change CMS backup lists and DDR backup lists.
